Role
Olds, a 2021 draftee, made his debut on Aug. 17 at 27 and threw a clean ninth against Arizona. He went up and down three times after that and pitched in middle relief. He's in line for the same job in 2027.
Outlook
The Boston line looks great: 1.15 ERA, 20 strikeouts in 15.2 innings. His fastball averaged 96.5 mph per Statcast, and his slider drew a 46.8% whiff rate. The Triple-A numbers are harder to like. He had a 5.33 ERA at Worcester this year and a 5.91 ERA there in 2025, with 39 walks in 53.1 innings. He walked 8 in Boston too, and in Wild Card Game 1 he gave up 3 runs and 2 walks in 1.1 innings.
Our take: there's real swing-and-miss in the arm, and the 1.15 ERA won't last.
